SEE I GO DIE CRIB– Take a Look

Now that’s what you call a mansion.

Nigerian comedian I Go Dye is clearly “balling” this 2014; he’s building a luxurious home in Benin City, Edo. The house which is still under construction, is inspired by French luxury castle – Chateaux De Reves.

In an exclusive interview with Encomium, he reveals that the house will have a lawn tennis court, two swimming pools – one indoor and outdoor, three kitchens, lounges/bars and a spectacular double staircase in the living room.

This will be his second home in Benin, he already has a 7-bedroom house.

On where he gets the money to build such houses: “There is always a reward for hard work and entertainment is not an exception. Most renowned artistes in the country are living based on the remunerations that they get from performances. It is a professional job that offers financial rewards. So, it will be wrong for someone to assume otherwise as if the entertainment industry cannot afford the success surrounding artistes in recent times.

Most high profile comedians like me handle corperate events that don’t enjoy the kind of publicity that the music artistes do. So, most often little is heard most times about how comedians earn their money. Sometimes in a single event some comedians are paid between N2.5 and N4 million. When you then evaluate how many of such performances within 365 days that they will be contracted, then you wouldn’t be too surprised what the average comedian is worth.”

Sketch for the house

U.S. Ambassador Speaks Pidgin English; Nigerians Love It.

Watch the video here    It's not often that a broadcast interview by a diplomat wows listeners, but a recent conversation involving the American ambassador to Nigeria, James F. Entwistle, is causing a buzz – and winning applause.
The praise is not so much for the content of the interview or the pressing issues the ambassador discusses. It's more for the language in which he chose to express himself: pidgin English.
Pidgin, or broken English, is the popular lingua franca spoken throughout West Africa. The patois cuts across Nigeria, the continent's most populous nation, which is home to hundreds of local languages, making it easier for millions of Nigerians from different parts of the country to communicate.
Entwistle was recently interviewed by Nigeria's Wazobia FM, the first radio station in Nigeria to broadcast in pidgin English. He was asked about Nigeria's controversial new anti-gay legislation and whether the U.S. might impose sanctions."The U.S. government no say sanction go dey for Nigeria, because of same-sex palava-o," Entwistle said.
In other words, the U.S. is not going to impose sanctions on Nigeria for passing a law criminalizing same-sex marriages.
A Surprise Call From The Embassy
It's not often that Westerners learn to speak, and master, pidgin.
So Onimisi "OJ" Adaba, the coordinating manager of Wazobia FM, says he was surprised when he received a call from the American Embassy suggesting the live studio interview in pidgin with the new ambassador.“He sold himself into the hearts of many Nigerians. That's quite a plus for the American Embassy.
- Lolo David, radio host who interviewed the U.S. ambassador in pidgin English
"I'm like, 'Wait a minute, Wazobia? I mean, we're talking about the U.S. ambassador! Does he speak pidgin in the first place?'" Adaba said.
Adaba was told the ambassador was practicing, trying to pick up things from here and there. "And I'm like, 'OK, it's worth giving a shot,'" he said.
Omotunde "Lolo" David, the host, was delighted to converse in pidgin with the American diplomat live on the air. She's a self-confessed aficionado of pidgin and says, though it may not be the language of diplomacy, it reaches people at the grassroots level.
"When we're talking about reaching everyone, pidgin English is a language just like our culture; a language like the beautiful clothing that we wear, very colorful, very expressive. It's a very beautiful language," David said.
David says pidgin is inventive, humorous, clever and curious — a rich language that eschews class and creed and is spoken by everyone in Nigeria, with regional variations.
"It's an evolving language," she said, "a language that has a life of its own."
And it's the language that Entwistle chose to speak, he says, because "if you want people to understand the United States and where we're coming from, you have to go where they live linguistically speaking. You have to be able to communicate."
Handling A Range Of Questions
Sometimes as a diplomat, Entwistle says, "you get stuck in this government-dealing-with-government rut."
"You have to remember that your job is also to get out and understand the country and the people," he says.
And so, David and Wazobia FM callers asked the American ambassador a range of questions – including one about next year's much-anticipated elections in Nigeria. Incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan's party is expected to be pushed hard by the opposition, and they wanted to know the U.S. position on the vote.
His answer?
"Make I tell you say U.S. no get any candidate for mind. The only ting wey go sweet us be say make the election dey transparent, credible and concluded," Entwistle said in Pidgin. "Make Nigerians pick candidates wey go sweet their belle, wey go do well well for them."
Did you get that? Here's a translation:
"Washington does not have a preferred presidential candidate. Just let Nigeria's elections be transparent and credible, and Nigerians should choose a candidate who will do them proud."
Sounds rather bland in translation, doesn't it? There's no mention of something literally making your stomach sweet (i.e., that you like it) or repetition of the word "well" for emphasis.
Wazobia's David and Adaba both praised the ambassador for being a good sport and for making the effort.
"He sold himself into the hearts of many Nigerians," David says. "That's quite a plus for the American Embassy."

A urine sample to detect cancer?

Cancer rates in developing nations have climbed sharply in recent years, and now account for 70 percent of cancer mortality worldwide. Early detection has been proven to improve outcomes, but screening approaches such as mammograms and colonoscopy, used in the developed world, are too costly to be implemented in settings with little medical infrastructure.

To address this gap, MIT engineers have developed a simple, cheap, paper test that could improve diagnosis rates and help people get treated earlier. The diagnostic, which works much like a pregnancy test, could reveal within minutes, based on a urine sample, whether a person has cancer. This approach has helped detect infectious diseases, and the new technology allows noncommunicable diseases to be detected using the same strategy.

The technology, developed by MIT professor and Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator Sangeeta Bhatia, relies on nanoparticles that interact with tumor proteins called proteases, each of which can trigger release of hundreds of biomarkers that are then easily detectable in a patient’s urine.

“When we invented this new class of synthetic biomarker, we used a highly specialized instrument to do the analysis,” says Bhatia, the John and Dorothy Wilson Professor of Health Sciences and Technology and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. “For the developing world, we thought it would be exciting to adapt it instead to a paper test that could be performed on unprocessed samples in a rural setting, without the need for any specialized equipment. The simple readout could even be transmitted to a remote caregiver by a picture on a mobile phone.”

Bhatia, who is also a member of MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research and Institute for Medical Engineering and Science, is the senior author of a paper describing the particles in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The paper’s lead authors are graduate student Andrew Warren, postdoc Gabriel Kwong, and former postdoc David Wood.

Amplifying cancer signals

In 2012, Bhatia and colleagues introduced the concept of a synthetic biomarker technology to amplify signals from tumor proteins that would be hard to detect on their own. These proteins, known as matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), help cancer cells escape their original locations by cutting through proteins of the extracellular matrix, which normally holds cells in place.

The MIT nanoparticles are coated with peptides (short protein fragments) targeted by different MMPs. These particles congregate at tumor sites, where MMPs cleave hundreds of peptides, which accumulate in the kidneys and are excreted in the urine.

In the original version of the technology, these peptides were detected using an instrument called a mass spectrometer, which analyzes the molecular makeup of a sample. However, these instruments are not readily available in the developing world, so the researchers adapted the particles so they could be analyzed on paper, using an approach known as a lateral flow assay – the same technology used in pregnancy tests.

To create the test strips, the researchers first coated nitrocellulose paper with antibodies that can capture the peptides. Once the peptides are captured, they flow along the strip and are exposed to several invisible test lines made of other antibodies specific to different tags attached to the peptides. If one of these lines becomes visible, it means the target peptide is present in the sample. The technology can also easily be modified to detect multiple types of peptides released by different types or stages of disease.

YOU ARE A HOPE FOR ME

Fuel others with positive energy.

By Jon Gordon

With so many people in the world telling us we can't succeed, we need to hear people telling us we can.

I remember my high school English teacher telling me not to apply to Cornell University because they wouldn't accept me and even if they did I wouldn't be able to do the work. (It's funny that I'm a writer now).

I almost didn't apply but a few days later I saw Ivan Foldfarb, a former teacher, in the hallway and asked him about Cornell. He said, "If you get in, then you go. You can do it." His words made all the difference. I applied, was accepted and majored in Lacrosse.

Too often we think it's our role to inject a dose of "reality" into someone's life. We think it's our job to protect people from the pain of failure and defeat. We think we must point out how bad the economy is and how horrible the job market is and how the sky is falling. We think that dreams were meant for others.

I say there are enough pessimists and "realists" in the world. The world doesn't need more negativity and impossible thinkers. The world needs more optimists, encouragers, and inspirers.

The world needs more people to speak into the hearts of others and say "I believe in you." "Follow your passion and live your purpose." "If you have the desire then you also have the power to make it happen." "Keep working hard." "You're improving and getting better. Keep it up." "The economy is tough but you can still grow your business." "The job market is not great but I believe you'll find the right job for you." "We've hit a lot of obstacles but we'll get the project finished." "Even if you fail it will lead to something even better." "You're learning and growing."

When it comes to encouragement I know that every one of us loves working for and with people who bring out the best in us. We love being around people who uplift us and make us feel great.

And while we'll always remember the negative people who told us we couldn't accomplish something, we will always cherish and hold a special place in our heart for those who encouraged us.

Today I want to encourage you to be an encourager. So often the difference between success and failure is belief. And so often that belief is instilled in us by someone who encouraged us.

Today decide to be that person who instills a positive belief in someone who needs to hear your encouraging words. Uplift someone who is feeling down. Fuel your team with your positive energy. Rally others to focus on what is possible rather than what seems impossible.

WHO IS THE MAN YOU CALLED HUSBAND OR FATHER

You will not get it right if your foundation is wrong.please repair it now you still have time
Man who slept
A 35-year-old bus driver, Adeleke Adetayo, who was charged with sleeping with his nine-year-old and 13-year-old daughters, has been sentenced by the Family Court unit of an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court to 14 years imprisonment.
Saturday PUNCH had in July 2013, reported how Adetayo’s two daughters were rescued after a sexual abuse that lasted two years.
Another report was published in December 2013, detailing the children’s life at the Lagos State Children’s Home, where they lamented that they had been scarred for life as a result of the abuse they suffered from their father.
The six-month trial of Adetayo culminated in him finally pleading guilty to sexual assault of his children, Saturday PUNCH learnt.
In her judgement, Chief Magistrate A. Oshoniyi found Adetayo guilty of sexual abuse and child defilement, sentencing him to seven years each for the crime against each child.
The judgment has been hailed by activists and government officials involved in the case, who stated that it was a victory for the Child Rights Act, 2005, which has hitherto been flouted by many criminals.
The Child Rights Act prescribes a sentence of 14 years for a person found guilty of having sexual intercourse with a child.
Director of the Esther Child Rights Foundation, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, who rescued the children and handed them over to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviationn, hailed the judgment as a message to paedophiles in the state that the law would catch up with them.
She said, “I cannot be happier about how this case turned out. It is not only about the fact that the law has prevailed but that it is now clear that child defilement cases can be effectively prosecuted.
“Anybody who feels that defiling children is their core competence should understand that it is just a matter of time, the law will catch up with them. The lives of those children have been changed forever, their father should spend some time to ruminate about that behind bars.”
Director of Child Services in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Dada Fadairo, who had overseen the case of the children, told our correspondent to call back when she was contacted for comment on the judgment, but she did not pick subsequent calls.
There was no way of reaching the mother of the abused children, Kemi, for comment.  The woman who has since remarried in Oyo Stat has remained incommunicado since her children were taken into custody by the state government.
Adetayo is to spend his sentence at the Kirikiri Prisons

UNDERSTANDING THE ADOLESCENT AGE

This series is going to be on understanding the teenager, but first we will know who the teenager is.

                                                                                         WHO IS A TEENAGER

EXPLORING THE GENERATION
This is the crucial time of all ages cause the people in this age will end up being the counselors and leaders of tomorrow. The today world is rapidly growing and at thesame rate of growth things are seriously falling apart and going out of place.the principles of morality are being re-checked and fine-tuned to suit the speed of things, Talking about the teenage age it refers to the foundation of all relationship.this age is a part of human process, It would just have been possible for God to make humans just grow into men and women without passing through the teenage age. so one can see that the teenage & adolescent age is a process and the will of God, Its a time that development and growing up takes place, As a matter of fact the word "ADOLESCENT"  is a Latin word which  simply means to GROW UP this is the bridge between the childhood(babe) and the adulthood(man & woman). it is growing up physically, emotionally, psychologically in all spheres of life , This time of age is the foundation of personality development, a time were the child picks up attitude & self development. (please note the word growing up) Its a development process and not fully developed, so its the second phase of learning which makes it a crucial time because psychological and emotional pact are mixed with this learning process, This teenage age is very influential, its influence on the society is like wild fire, a thorough understanding of this age is very essential else our socio-cultural values, norms and morals will be fine tuned to the 21st century immorality called socialization and these understanding depends on right information from the bible, our churches, schools, media e.t.c

SEX AND ITS PURPOSE

SEX SEX SEX AND SEX IS A WORD WE HEAR IN OUR EVERYDAY LIFE SEE IN OUR EVERYDAY ENVIRONMENT IT’S THE WORD THAT HAVE STOLEN MANY HEART DESTROYED AND DISTORTED MANY DESTINIES, BROUGHT ABOUT THE DOWN FALL OF GREAT MEN, BROUGHT RUIN TO MANY FINE HOME, DESTROYED RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FAMILIES, BROUGHT CAUSE TO MANY CHILDREN, NAME ANY SIN OF THE FLESH WHOSE FOUNDATION IS NOT CAUSED BY THE THREE LETTER WORD CALLED “SEX” AND YET WE FAIL TO TALK ABOUT IT WE ALL SHY AWAY FROM IT AS IF IT IS A STRANGER IN OUR LIVES,THE CHURCH,THE SCHOOL OUR PARENTS IF THE BASIC FORM AND PLACES OF LEARNING HAVE AVOIDED TALKING ABOUT THIS WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION HOW THEN DO YOU EXPECT ITS VICTIM NOT TO GROW YET THE DEVIL ON ITS PART IS SERIOUSLY ENLARGING ITS MINISTERIAL COAST VIA THE MEDIA(VIDEOS,MUSIC,BOOKS,INTERNET) FASHION, ASSOCIATION AND ALL VARIOUS MEANS AND WE SAY WE ENLARGING OUR OWN MINISTERIAL COAST …O OOH NOW WONDER JESUS SAID IN LUKE 16 VS 8  And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

                                                               IS SEX GOOD OR BAD

NOTHING THAT WAS CREATED BY GOD HIMSELF WAS BAD.THAT SIMPLY MEANS SEX IS A GOOD THING AND WAS CREATED FOR SPECIFIC PERSONS AND PURPOSE. BUT WHEN ITS DONE OUTSIDE THE GOD’S SPECIFICATION IT BECOMES ABUSE ,SIN IT BECOMES FORBIDDEN IN GOD’S KINGDOMIT BECOMES BAD AND THEREFORE BECOMES THE DEVILS WILL AND NO LONGER THE SEX GOD CREATED BUT NOW BECOMES PRE-MARITAL AND EXTRA-MARITAL SEX THE FASHIONED FROM SEX.
PLEASE NOTE THAT GOD CREATED SEX.WHICH IS GOOD AND THE DEVIL FASHIONED PRE & EXTRA-MARITAL SEX  FROM GOD’S MASTER PIECE.

                                                           THE PURPOSE OF SEX

SEXUALITY IS AN EMOTIONAL INSTINCT THAT IS EMBEDDED IN LIVING CREATURES THAT BRINGS ABOUT THE ATTRACTION OF THE OPPOSITE SEX TOGETHER,SEX IS THE ACTION BETWEEN THESE CREATURES.
SEX WAS DESIGNED BY GOD FOR A PURPOSE OR PURPOSES AND SOME OF THESE PURPOSES ARE WHAT WE WILL LOOK INTO IN THIS ARTICLE:

1.      FOR PLEASURE & INTIMACY:  SEX IN ITSELF IT AN UNEXPLAINED MYSTERY. OUTSIDE THE BONDS OF MARRIAGE SEX MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. GOD DESIGNED SEX AS AN AVENUE OF INTIMACY BETWEEN THE BODY,MIND,SOUL AND SPIRIT. THAT IS WHY APOSTLE PAUL WARNED ABOUT BEING JOINED WITH AN HARLOT IN 1ST CORINTH 6: 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”[b] 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. SEX ITSELF IS FOR A FULL SATISFACTION ,PHYSICALLY,EMOTIONALLY AND OTHERWISE BETWEEN THE MAN AND THE WOMAN,ITS ABOUT BEING OPEN TO ONE ANOTHER,THE BIBLE SAY THAT THE MAN AND THE WOMAN WERE NAKED AND THEY WERE NOT ASHAMED THAT ALONE TELL THE LEVEL OF COMMITMENT IN SEXX .

2    FOR PROCREATION :THIS IS A BASIC COMMAND GIVEN BY GOD HIMSELF TO MANKIND AFTER CREATION IT IS  RECORDED IN (Genesis 1:28). THIS THEREFORE MAKES SEX NOT JUST FOR PLEASURE BUT A TOOL OF ITS OWN TO FULFILLING GOD’S COMMANDMENT.ITS THE ONLY TOOL THAT CAN FULFILL THIS COMMANDMENT . THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO FULFILLING THIS COMMANDMENT WE ARE REQUIRED BY GOD TO GIVE BIRTH TO SPECIES OF OUR OWN WHO RESEMBLES US.THAT IS WHY THE BIBLE REMINDS US THAT CHILDREN ARE GIFT FROM GOD ,BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT HE DESIGNED SEX SPECIFICALLY FOR.

3. FOR COMPANIONSHIP: SEX IS A COVENANT ACT, IT REQUIRES THE SOUL,THE MIND, THE BODY.IT IS SIMPLY THE UNION BETWEEN THOSE INVOLVE IN IT THEY SHARE EVERY THING THEY HAVE WITH EACH OTHER. IT BRINGS ABOUT FRIENDSHIP,MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE HUSBAND AND WIFE. BECAUSE THEY HAVE UNIFIED AND COMMITTED THEIR WHOLE SELVES TO EACH OTHER SONG 3 VS 1. IT BRING ABOUT COMMUNION BETWEEN THE HUSBAND AND THE WIFE,IT STRENGTHEN INTIMACY BETWEEN THEM THAT IS WHY THE CREATOR SAID IN  Genesis 2:2424 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

FINALLY KNOW THAT MARRIAGE AND SEX IS HONORABLE TO GOD IN ALL WAYS, ALSO DON’T MISTAKE SEX FOR PRE-MARITAL SEX  OR EXTRA-MARITAL SEX, TO AVOID THIS LET EVERYONE MARRY.
